It is a government-backed, multi-year national initiative supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and delivered through the Japan Arts Council, aimed at nurturing emerging creators and artists while strengthening cultural institutions and promoting international exchange.
Supported projects generated international activity across 23 countries and regions, including awards and nominations at major events like the Berlin International Film Festival, Cannes Directors' Fortnight, and Annecy International Animation Film Festival, as well as performances at London's Royal Opera House and new cross-border collaborations.
The meeting was held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Tokyo.
Mr. Shigeki Kobayashi, Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, delivered opening remarks, emphasizing that creators and artists are the source of compelling content and reaffirming the government's commitment to investing in creative talent and international exchange.
Projects supported by the Fund have been implemented across 23 countries and regions, spanning Asia, Europe, North America, and beyond.
The Fund supports projects in music, film, games, visual arts, performing arts, and other creative industries.
They introduced the SOIL Fellowship Program (Stage for Originality, Innovation, and Leadership), which cultivates producers and strengthens the international positioning of Japanese performing arts. In FY2025, participants presented their work at pitching events in London and Edinburgh.
The Fund is delivered through the Japan Arts Council, under the oversight of the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
