Fasig | Brooks Files Negligent Security Lawsuit Over Fatal Shooting at ReNew Tallahassee Apartments

The lawsuit alleges negligent security by the owner, management, and security company of ReNew Tallahassee apartments, leading to the fatal shooting of Khali Knight, a 23-year-old U.S. Army Veteran.

Attorneys Ryan Molaghan and Dan Hogan of Fasig | Brooks Law Offices filed the lawsuit. Defendants include VA8 Seminole Grand, LLC (owner/operator), Trinity Property Consultants, LLC (management), and Norwood Holdings, LLC (security company).

The lawsuit alleges inadequate lighting, insufficient security patrols, lack of proper access controls, and failure to respond to known patterns of violent crime at the property.

It highlights property owners' and security companies' legal obligation to provide adequate security, especially when there is a known history of violent crime. The criminal conviction of the shooter does not absolve them of civil liability.

The perpetrator, a resident of ReNew Tallahassee, pleaded guilty to federal gun and drug offenses related to Khali Knight's murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The shooting occurred at ReNew Tallahassee apartments (formerly Seminole Grand) at 1505 West Tharpe Street, Tallahassee, Florida, on July 17, 2024.

To hold the property owner, management, and security company accountable for negligence that created dangerous conditions and led to Khali Knight's death.
