Falcon Energy Materials Opens Pilot Plant in Morocco for Battery-Grade Graphite Production
Falcon Energy Materials plc has opened a pilot plant near Casablanca, Morocco to produce qualification-scale CSPG samples for the battery industry. This milestone advances their goal of building a competitive battery anode supply chain outside of China.
The pilot plant will produce qualification-scale coated spheronized purified graphite (CSPG) samples for potential customers, generate operating data, support workforce training, and provide process design criteria for a planned 25,000 tpa commercial-scale anode facility.
It is the first natural graphite CSPG pilot facility in Morocco and represents a critical scale-up from lab testing, enabling customer qualification programs and advancing Falcon's goal of building a competitive battery anode supply chain outside of China.
The pilot plant is located near Casablanca, Morocco.
The pilot plant opened in July 2026, and qualification-scale CSPG samples are expected to be produced on site in the summer of 2026.
Potential customers include original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and battery producers.
It generates operating and process design data, provides a training platform for plant operators, and helps optimize key aspects of the CSPG production process to support engineering and future commercial discussions.
The samples will be made from premium natural graphite feedstock sourced from Africa, and Falcon is testing several alternative high-quality sources to ensure scalable, reliable supply.
The proposed commercial-scale anode plant has a capacity of 25,000 tonnes per annum (tpa).
