FAQ: Warning About Diverted HIV Medicines on Online Pharmacy-to-Pharmacy Platforms

ADAP Advocacy and the Partnership for Safe Medicines warn pharmacists that discounted HIV products bought from online pharmacy-to-pharmacy (P2P) marketplaces fit the definition of suspect product under FDA guidelines, requiring quarantine and verification. This practice puts patients living with HIV/AIDS at risk.
FAQ: Warning About Diverted HIV Medicines on Online Pharmacy-to-Pharmacy Platforms

The statement warns pharmacists that all discounted HIV products bought from online pharmacy-to-pharmacy (P2P) marketplaces are considered suspect products under FDA guidelines and the Drug Supply Chain Security Act, and should not be purchased from these platforms.

Deep discounts, unknown sellers, incomplete transaction histories, and a pattern of fraud in the HIV drug supply chain over the last six years meet FDA risk criteria for illegitimacy, making the products suspect even before receipt.

Any HIV medicines purchased from these platforms should be considered suspect product, requiring quarantine and verification before dispensing. If the product is confirmed illegitimate, it must be reported to the FDA and partners within 24 hours.

The warning was issued jointly by ADAP Advocacy and the Partnership for Safe Medicines (PSM).

Such transactions are even more vulnerable than P2P platforms and are never advisable, as they expose patients to unnecessary risks.
