FAQ: CAHEC's Nutrition Assistance Initiative for Low-Income Families

CAHEC's Nutrition Assistance Initiative is a community support program that provides meals to low-income families through food distributions and school pantry programs, as part of CAHEC's broader Community Investments aimed at offering educational and wellness opportunities to residents.

Food distributions occurred in November and December 2025 in Rocky Mount, NC and Greensboro, NC, with school pantry programs at Southeast Raleigh High School and Sanderson High School in the Raleigh area.

CAHEC collaborated with the Interfaith Food Shuttle in Rocky Mount and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina in Greensboro, both organizations dedicated to hunger relief.

The Rocky Mount distributions provided approximately 17,524 meals, the Greensboro distribution provided 31,029 meals, and the school pantry programs provided around 3,502 meals, totaling over 52,000 meals across all initiatives.

Families received fresh produce, meat, bread, non-perishable food items, and essential toiletries, with Greensboro households also receiving gift cards to local grocery stores for additional purchases.

Low-income households, including seniors, children, and adults living in CAHEC portfolio properties and surrounding communities benefit from this initiative, with specific distributions serving 294 households in Greensboro alone.

According to Stefanie Lee, Community Relations Manager, this initiative represents CAHEC's commitment to ensuring everyone has access to healthy meals year-round and goes beyond housing to deliver essential support that builds stronger, healthier communities.

CAHEC is a community investment organization that provides affordable housing through tax credit investments, loan programs, wellness and education initiatives, affordable housing development, and property management services throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
