FAQ: Valencia City of the Grail 2025/26 Awards and Cordoba Tourism Research

This content covers the recognition of two researchers from Córdoba who received the Artistic Recognition "Valencia, City of the Grail" 2025/26 award for their work in promoting tourism as a tool for deseasonalization and economic regeneration in the province of Córdoba, Andalusia.

Researchers and doctors María Genoveva Millán Vázquez de la Torre and María Genoveva Dancausa Millán were awarded for their contribution to promoting tourism as a tool for deseasonalization and territorial and economic regeneration of municipalities in Córdoba province and Andalusia.

The award ceremony took place on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Cherry Blossom Valencia venue.

The award was granted by the International Association Cultural Itinerary The Way of the Holy Grail in Europe (https://elcaminodelsantogrial.eu/).

The research identified that 50.1% of gastronomic tourists are motivated by learning about production processes in oil mills, wineries or factories, 40.8% by tasting local cuisine, and attending gastronomic festivals as the third most important motivation.

The typical oleotourist is middle-aged (predominantly 50-59 years old), with medium or higher education, moderate purchasing power, and makes short getaways motivated by cultural and gastronomic interest in authentic olive oil experiences.

The research provides concrete data on tourism impact, offers strategic value for companies and administrations, and helps design tourist experiences that reinforce authenticity, promote sustainability, create jobs, and enhance economic competitiveness for local businesses.

The study coordinated by Professor Dancausa Millán surveyed 470 oleotourists between October 2023 and June 2024 to understand visitor motivations and profiles.

Her research extends to rural and heritage tourism, identifying visitor segments seeking authenticity, nature and heritage through thematic routes linked to wine, oil or ham, as well as emerging modalities like religious tourism.

The award was promoted by the Losan Clinical Optical Centre (https://opticaclinicalosan.es/servicios-optica-valencia/), which distinguishes scientific work linking agri-food and cultural heritage with sustainable tourism.
