NordVPN Class Action Lawsuit FAQ: Auto-Renewal and Billing Practices

NordVPN is accused of quietly increasing subscription renewal prices without proper notice, charging customers weeks before their subscriptions actually renew, and denying timely refund requests despite advertising a '30-day money-back guarantee.'

The case is filed in Massachusetts federal court (U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts), and NordVPN is also facing class action lawsuits in California, Colorado, New York, Illinois, and North Carolina.

NordVPN charges the higher subscription renewal price roughly two weeks before the renewal date, effectively trapping users in a new annual plan before they can cancel, and backdates its '30-day money-back guarantee' to the date of charge.

The lawsuit asserts violations of Chapter 93A, the Massachusetts consumer-protection statute, and common law.

The legal team consists of Wittels McInturff Palikovic and Bryson Harris Suciu & DeMay, PLLC, with primary contacts being J. Burkett McInturff (jbm@wittelslaw.com or (910) 476-7253) and Scott Harris (sharris@brysonpllc.com or (919) 600-5003).

The lawsuit seeks damages, restitution, and a court order halting NordVPN's allegedly unlawful billing practices.

NordVPN backdates its '30-day money-back guarantee' to the date of the charge rather than the renewal date, making the guarantee period far less than 30 days in practice.

Many users only discover the higher charges after the fact when they review their credit card statements, as the website and checkout process don't clearly disclose renewal price increases.

Wittels McInturff Palikovic previously achieved a $62 million settlement against a weight-loss app for deceptive autorenewal practices, and BHSD has recovered hundreds of millions for clients in consumer protection cases involving illegal fees.
